How to better space your shampoos?

Intensive workout, pollution, oily hair… for many reasons, most women feel obliged to wash their hair almost every day. How to space your shampoos to allow your scalp and your lengths to be healthy? All our tips deciphered with the help of Marie Debrix, Aveda France training manager.

Summary

  • Choosing the right hair routine
  • Does the styling need to be adapted?

  • Same thing for athletes?

Washing your hair daily is really not ideal! The negative consequences are numerous: it increases the production of sebum by over-straining the scalp and the hair becomes greasy more quickly (hello the vicious circle), it damages the lengths, accelerates the phenomenon of hair loss and obviously... makes you lose weight. time and money! How to adopt your routine to be able to space your shampoos? First, by focusing on the right products.

Choosing the right hair routine

"The scalp and hair diagnosis is the best idea to determine your hair routine" explains Marie Debrix, who specifies that it can be done for free at Aveda. Using a camera fitted with a zoom, the photograph obtained is compared with an image taken on a healthy head. The problems determined then make it possible to choose the ideal shampoo and treatment. " You should know that the shampoo can wash the scalp while the treatment or conditioner takes care of your lengths and ends " , clarifies the trainer. It is therefore possible to bet on an anti-dandruff shampoo  (irritated scalp) and a super hydrating conditioner ( dry hair ).

The application is also important: you must massage the shampoo with circular movements on the skull and apply the treatment only on the lengths and ends! Another essential tip according to Marie Debrix: " Rinse more than you think " . Poorly rinsed, hair cosmetics can weigh down the hair and weaken it ... and eventually lead to a new faster wash. And once the hair is dry, are there other good things to do?

Does the styling need to be adapted?

Going in the shower to wash your hair every time your hair look isn't right for you is not the right solution. To regain volume or flexibility, it is advisable to opt for the clever dry shampoo . " If it is composed of ingredients of natural origin and therefore not aggressive for the scalp, it can be used once or twice a week without problem" , reassures Marie Debrix. It's all a question of dosage!

The same goes for styling products: they don't risk too much dirtying your hair if you apply them occasionally. Some may even provide optimal hydration or protection against pollution.

Finally on the hairstyle side, contrary to what we sometimes hear, the brush strokes do not further grease the hair. So you can use it to tie your lengths into a ponytail if you want to put off washing for a day longer.

Same thing for athletes?

“Whatever your lifestyle, it would be ideal to wash your hair only every third day,” explains trainer Aveda. In the meantime, your hair doesn't really have time to get dirty (yes, that's often just an impression!).

For your active exercise sessions, therefore, bet on an elastic: perfect accessory for a braid or a competition ponytail. Dry shampoo can also be used at the roots before a workout, this will absorb excess sebum.

And if the perspiration turns into an " oily hair " effect , you can alternate a post-session shampoo and a simple rinse with clear water.

It's your turn!
